What is Gambier?

Gambier is an extract obtained from the leaves and stems of “Uncaria Gambier” tropical shrub which wildly grows in Southeast Asia both cultivated and wild. It has a highly astringent taste with no odor, ranging in color from yellow to brown.

Medicinal Properties

It is highly effective in diarrhea, dysentery, gum disease, toothache, lower back pain, sciatica, sore throat, burns, and wounds. It is also used in medicine composition for astringent, antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, liver tonic etc.

Usage 

It is used as a tanning agent, brown dye, food additive and as herbal medicines. It was initially used as medicine and chewed with betel leaves. It is used for dyeing and tanning cotton, wool, silk, and leather. It is also an edible item used in pan masala.
